Concealed in the depths of the Southeast Pacific Ocean, Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, stands as a place shrouded in secrecy and solitude. Characterized by their elongated earlobes, the long ears formed the elite priesthood who supervised the crafting and transportation of the statues across the island.
The colossal size of the megaliths on Easter Island has sparked speculation that they might have been fashioned by giants. This idea resonates with myths from various cultures, hinting at a potential connection between ancient giants and megalithic structures.
Yet, a veil of uncertainty hangs over the island’s history. Despite supporting a population of up to 15,000 individuals before Western discovery, Easter Island witnessed a rapid decline.
Just 52 years after James Cook’s exploration, the moai sculptures on the island lay in ruins, and the population dwindled to a mere 700 survivors.
What caused such a drastic downfall? Interestingly, historical records from that period make no mention of giants, creating an intriguing gap in our understanding of the island’s past.
Some supporters of ancient astronaut theories offer a compelling theory on the disappearance of Easter Island’s populace. Archaeological findings reveal abandoned and unfinished moai statues in quarries alongside scattered tools.
